Achieving certification from the Canadian Health Information Management Association supplies the Health Information Management Professional with professional recognition and provides proof that their skills are at the required minimum level post-graduation. Only graduates of CHIMA (recognized Health Information Management programs) may apply. CHIMA sets standards whereby health information management academic programs are evaluated for their suitability to prepare students to meet the national standards for becoming certified health information management (HIM) professionals. Only graduates of CHIMA-recognized health information management programs may apply to write the national certification examination.
